What does people pleasing look like?

People pleasing can present in our lives in lots of ways, big and small. It can be everything from feeling compelled to say yes to requests, not offering an opinion out of fear of upsetting others or always allowing others to call the shots. Not sure if people pleasing is a problem for you? Take a look at the following people pleasing behaviour and see if it sounds familiar:

  • You pride yourself on being agreeable, dependable and supportive – but find yourself feeling frustrated and exhausted
  • The idea of being seen as difficult or self-absorbed is abhorrent to you – so you make sure you never are
  • You do anything to avoid confrontation – disagreements or tension make you uncomfortable
  • You feel guilty for having needs – so never ask for support
  • You question or discount your opinions – so keep them to yourself
  • You see everyone else as more important than you – and think little of yourself
  • You seek everyone’s approval through your pleasing behaviour– but still feel like you’re never enough

How is People Pleasing Hurting you?
